Towards a prosperous agribusiness sector in Iraq

The GIZ-funded ‘Knowledge transfer for Agribusiness Innovation’ project assists the development of the private sector in the growing Iraqi market. The project will facilitate linkages between international companies and opportunities within the Iraqi market for investment, trade, and knowledge exchange. Through creation of business opportunities, the project aims to promote employment and growth in Iraqi agribusiness.

Promoting employment and growth

The project activities include knowledge transfer, skill development and expert exchange for and with Iraqi entrepreneurs, companies and private sector organizations from the agribusiness sector. The project aims to develop international networks, advance technical knowledge, and improve productivity of agricultural Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Iraq.

The project will train 50 national agri-SMEs in Baghdad, Diwaniya, Erbil and Mosul on a cutting edge Knowledge Transfer Training Methodology, developed by GIZ and ZOA. A further 20 national agri-SMEs will receive professional advice and support to improve and modernize their existing business. In particular, the project is working in the seed, date, olive, agri-machinery and dairy sectors.
